       Highlights of How our City has faired recently under My Leadership




  • Kept our City’s Property Tax Rate at least 12% lower than most Valley cities including Brownsville, San Benito, Edinburg, Pharr, and Weslaco

  • Completed or have underway nearly $20 million in drainage improvements over the last 10 years

  • Secured $5.6 million for a Texas Water Development Grant for Regional Flood Study

  • Maintained sound fiscal management with $25,177,079 in Unencumbered Fund Balance (Savings) and secured a AA+ credit rating

  • Our Airport has completed $15.5 million in improvements to make Valley International the premier airport in the Valley

  • Landed two new airlines:  American and Frontier

  • Supported Economic Development grant of land to build the UTRGV’s School of Medicine Institute of Neurosciences

  • Partnered with the School District and UTRGV to build the Early College High School and UTRGV campus in Harlingen—making higher ed available to all our kids

  • Kept our City safe and reduced the crime rate by 18% in 2020

  • Led the effort to partner Habitat for Humanity with Rotary and the City to build affordable housing

  • Supported the effort to turn a $350,000 City investment into a $5 million private investment in the Baxter Building downtown
